Betting Glossary — A Simple Guide for Beginners
Learn the key terms in online gaming and betting.
RTP (Return to Player)
A theoretical rate representing what percentage of total wagers placed on a game is returned to players over the long term. For example, a 96% RTP means an average of ৳96 comes back for every ৳100 wagered.
House Edge
The mathematical advantage the casino holds in every game is called the house edge. It is the flip side of RTP — the lower the house edge, the better it is for the player.
Wager / Stake
The amount of money you place on a round or bet is called the wager or stake. It serves as the basis for calculating wins and losses.
Odds
Odds express the probability of an event or the return you will receive if you win. In decimal format, odds of 2.0 mean you get back double your stake.
Parlay / Accumulator
Combining multiple bets into a single wager is called a parlay. Every bet must win — but the payout is much larger when successful.
Live Bet
The ability to place bets in real time while a match is in progress is called live betting. Odds shift with every moment of play, which makes in-play betting especially exciting.
Cashout
The option to secure partial or full profit before a match ends is called cashout. It helps reduce risk.
Bankroll
The total amount of money set aside specifically for gaming. Sound bankroll management is the foundation of responsible gaming.
Volatility
Volatility refers to the variation in how often and how much you win in a slot game. High volatility means fewer but larger wins; low volatility means frequent smaller wins.
Free Spin
Free slot spins received as a bonus. You get to play without using your own money, though wagering requirements may apply to any winnings.
Wagering Requirement
The number of times you must place bets before you can withdraw a bonus is called the wagering requirement. At ods96 this requirement is 25x (deposit + bonus).
Spread
In sports betting, the spread is a handicap set on the points or runs difference between two teams. It creates an opportunity to bet on either side on more equal terms.
Educational Guide
Bankroll Management Guide — Play Smart
1. Set a budget: Before you start gaming, decide the maximum amount you are willing to spend. Set this amount aside for entertainment only — never use money meant for essential expenses.
2. Divide into sessions: Split your total budget into smaller sessions. Rather than putting it all in at once, play with a fixed amount per session — this way you can enjoy the experience for longer.
3. Follow the 1–5% per-bet rule: Never place more than 1% to 5% of your total bankroll on a single bet. This rule protects you from consecutive losses and keeps the door open for longer-term play.
4. Plan when to stop after a win: Decide in advance that you will stop once you reach a certain amount in winnings. Chasing even bigger wins after a good run and losing it all is a common mistake.
5. Respect your loss limit: Set a maximum daily or weekly loss limit. Once you reach it, stop playing — come back the next day with a fresh mindset.
